WWE Legend Undertaker Shares Concerns About Modern Wrestling and Importance of Protecting Characters
The WWE legend, Undertaker, recently sat down for an interview with Ariel Helwani to discuss his career. Talking about the current state of wrestling, Undertaker expressed concern about the lack of understanding among modern wrestlers regarding the importance of protecting and developing a character. He emphasized that many wrestlers fail to maintain consistency between their on-screen persona and their social media presence, which can be detrimental to their character's credibility.
“I think a lot of our talent, not just our talent, but just in general, they don’t understand any concept of protecting a character or even developing a character enough to want to protect it. They go and do something on TV and then you go to their social media, and they’re completely different.”
Undertaker attributed his successful 30-year career in the WWE to his old-school mentality and dedication to his craft. He urged younger wrestlers to take their characters seriously and strive to maintain consistency between their on-screen and off-screen personas.
“I’m a dinosaur. I am. I mean my mentality is still 20 years ago but you know I guess there’s a reason too why I lasted as long as I did. It’s just like, gosh, just live it a little bit. You don’t have to go to the extremes that I did, but man, just kind of be in real life just a little bit. If you’re going to post something, at least kind of match what you’re trying to convince people that you’re this or you’re that.”
Undertaker's comments hold true for even established wrestlers, as we too often see the inconsistency between on-screen and off-screen personas. Undertaker's unwavering commitment to his character and craft has made him a beloved figure in the wrestling world and an inspiration to many. His insights are a valuable lesson for aspiring wrestlers looking to establish themselves in the industry.
