"Roman Reigns would have been a better choice to break my streak" - Undertaker

Undertaker on original plans for ending his WrestleMania streak
The Undertaker ended his career on a high note with three decades of destruction in the path. He is forever remembered for the greatest streaks in WWE history. Brock Lesnar famously broke the streak in 2014, ending the Undertaker's 21 consecutive wins at WrestleMania. However, the Undertaker revealed that there were a few individuals who WWE Chairman Vince McMahon wanted to break his winning streak, including Vladimir Kozlov and Edge, who declined the offer out of respect for the streak and what it meant to the wrestling industry.

“By the time we got to WrestleMania, we pretty much knew what was going to go down, but there were a few people I guess that he wanted to break the streak. (Vladimir) Kozlov, he wanted him. It was early on, and I think he wanted Edge to go over and Edge refused. He said, ‘No. I can’t do it.’ That’s how much he respected the streak and me and what that streak meant to the business. I didn’t know that at that time. I didn’t know that until years after. That says a lot about the human being he is.”

“That’s how much he [Edge] respected the streak.”

The Undertaker's retirement in 2020 marked the end of an era, and he will always be remembered as one of the greatest WWE superstars of all time. However, he believes that Brock Lesnar should not have been the one to break the streak and that Roman Reigns would have been a better choice.

"I think it would’ve been great for Roman, I don’t think that it elevated [Brock’s] stardom like it could’ve helped someone else. I don’t think Brock needed it… Brock was a major attraction, he was a star. I don’t know if it enhanced him anymore.”

Despite the controversial ending of his streak, The Undertaker's legacy is undeniable. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame class of 2022, cementing his place in wrestling history.
